Changing your diet is probably one of the most difficult task
The food we eat has a deep connection with how we feel at an emotional level. It relates us to our past and to our culture. It revives memories of feelings particularly important when these memories were built in childhood.
If sugar for instance was given to you as a child as a reward, the positive association between sugar and good feeling is going to be difficult to break. In addition, at a collective level some food are considered comforting because they are traditionally given to make us feel good.
In fact it is true that sugar gives energy to some extent. Amniotic liquid is very sweet, and breast milk has an average of 8% of carbohydrates. It is no surprise therefore that sugar is so overall positive in our belief system.
The problem comes for the fact that there is sugar and sugar.
Most sugar used is super refined; it is also overused as a taste enhancer and preservative in processed food wherever salt does not apply for the job. The World Health Organization states sugar should not exceed 10% of a person’s diet. The Standard American Diet goes far beyond that.
As a result, we ingest a dose of sugar detrimental to health unknowingly, because it still feels good.
Food addiction and withdrawal effect
Sugar addiction is well known and well documented. Whenever there is addiction, there is craving: withdrawal effects can be extremely painful. This is why changing your diet should be progressive. Unless you decide to go on a detoxification under a doctor’s supervision, you will be better off gradually changing your diet.
When you combine the physical, the emotional addiction and the best interest of the food industry, you understand why eating healthy is not an easy step.

Learn about green vegetables
Most people don’t know anything beyond salad, celery and broccoli. The range of greens available for consumption is vast: spinach and lettuce are the mildest in taste, some are spicy like mustard greens, some are bitter like arugula. And there are a lot of leaves ignored by modern diet such as beet leaves not only delicious but super healthy.

Start with green smoothies
Green smoothie is the easiest way to slowly but surely change your tastebuds for less sugary food. On my personal blog I wrote a post on the effect of green smoothie in helping my family. I confirm today that our taste for sugar is really reduced. All cakes are too sugary. Homemade desserts are now made with xylitol which is a fantastic sugar substitute for baking, and we use 2/3 of what the recipe recommends.
Starting with a green smoothie daily (a large glass 16oz is a good start) is the smoother way to healthy road.
Then if it is too draining emotionally remember to use EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to manage your emotions.
